Why Every Graduate Student Should do an Industrial Internship Graduate school is a great time in your academic career. You are being introduced to new people, new concepts and whole new worlds are being opened to you. However, too often I see graduate students not being open to certain opportunities or experiences. Specifically, not getting any experience in industry. When I would push my students to do internships or talk to other students about internships, I would often hear that they didn’t want to do this because they wanted to go into academia.
For years my wife and I had cable. Although we were paying for the pleasure, I felt more like a hostage than a customer. I had to pay for channels that I did not want, customer service s#cked, I paid for taxes and services that I did not understand and finally I had to rent equipment that was required for their service.
Over the last few months I came up with a plan to Kill My Cable Bill (~$160/month for Cable, VOI Phone and Internet). I am now paying around $50/month for the same set of services. Here is how I did it.

I have been a gamer for a good portion of my life. For me it really started in Junior High when I found D&D and I would spend weekends with my closest friends killing orcs and red dragons. Well, the idea of spending many entire weekends sitting around a table, eating chips and drinking Mountain Dew seems about as obtainable as ## (although it would be great to have just one more run at a good campaign sounds like fun).

Alright, I've done it. I have upgraded my phone again. My two year contract with t-mobilehad expired (well it actually expired about 6 months ago) and my t-mobile myTouch phone was having some serious problems. Well the problem was not with the phone, but instead was with the Android 2.2 operating system that killed it when it was installed. One would think that a phone would work ... well as a phone. Not my t-mobile myTouch.
